hy·per·acu·sis (hi″pər-ə-kooґsis) [hyper- + acou- + -sis] exceptionally acute hearing, the hearing threshold being unusually low. It may or may not be accompanied by pain. Called also hyperacousia, hyperacusia, hyperakusis, and acoustic or auditory hyperesthesia.
