health visitor
health vis·i·tor -.viz-ət-ər, -.viz-tər n Brit a trained person who is usu. a qualified nurse and is employed by a local British authority to visit people (as nursing mothers) in their homes and advise them on health matters

* * *

a trained nurse with specialist qualifications in health promotion and public health. Most of the work of health visitors is focused on families with children under five years old but can be extended to other targeted groups in the population (e.g. the elderly) to meet health needs in the wider community. Health visitors do not carry out practical nursing care but seek to educate, in particular by drawing attention to unmet needs in terms of health care and those of the social services likely to improve health.
