(EPA) ei·co·sa·pen·ta·eno·ic ac·id (EPA) (i-ko″sə-pen″tə-e-noґik) [Gr. eikosa twenty + pentaene + -ic] all cis-5,8,11,14,17-eicosapentaenoic acid, an omega-3, polyunsaturated, 20-carbon fatty acid found almost exclusively in fish and marine animal oils; it is a substrate for cyclooxygenase.
