Muscular dystrophy, limb-girdle
A form of muscular dystrophy that begins in the patient’s teens or twenties, starting with progressive weakness in the hips or shoulders. A wheelchair is usually needed within 20 years. Limb-girdle MD can be caused by any of several genetic defects, and can affect both males and females.
