A phosphotransferase catalyzing the phosphorylation of d-glyceraldehyde by ATP to produce d-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and ADP; participates in a step in d-fructose metabolism. SYN: triosekinase.

tri·o·ki·nase (tri″o-kiґnās) [EC 2.7.1.28] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the phosphorylation of glyceraldehyde to form glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. The reaction occurs in the liver and is part of the series funneling fructose into the Embden-Meyerhof pathway. Called also triose kinase.
