A mixture of mono-, di-, and t., used as an emulsifying agent in the preparation of medicated ointments and lotions and as an aid in the absorption of such medicaments through the skin.

tri·eth·a·nol·amine (tri″eth-ə-nolґə-mēn) an ethanolamine carrying three ethanol substituents, produced by ammonolysis of ethylene oxide. A pharmaceutical preparation is called trolamine (q.v.).
