transducin
A protein that binds guanine nucleotides ( I.E., a G protein), found in retinal rods and cones, that plays a major role in signal transduction; in vertebrate rod cells it acts as a link of the photolysis of rhodopsin to the activation of cGMP phosphodiesterase.

trans·du·cin (trans-dooґsin) a G protein of the disk membrane of the retinal rods that interacts with activated rhodopsin and participates in the triggering of a nerve impulse in vision; it stimulates hydrolysis of cyclic guanosine monophosphate, beginning the cascade that closes specific ion channels and generates an action potential.
