A solitary skin nodule composed of glycolipid-containing multinucleated large histiocytes; multiple lesions sometimes occur in association with arthritis. [reticulo- + histiocytoma]

re·tic·u·lo·his·tio·cy·to·ma (re-tik″u-lo-his″te-o-si-toґmə) [reticulo- + histiocytoma] a granulomatous proliferation of lipid-laden macrophages and multinucleated giant cells whose pale eosinophilic cytoplasm has a ground-glass appearance. It occurs in two clinically different but histologically indistinguishable forms, reticulohistiocytic granuloma and multicentric reticulohistiocytosis.
