- A globulin obtained from parotid glands that causes hypocalcemia, has effects on mesenchymal tissues, produces first leukopenia and then leukocytosis, and promotes calcification of dentin. SYN: salivary gland hormone.

par·o·tin (parґo-tin) an acidic globulin extractable from human parotid gland, which may have some hormonal properties; in rabbits, it promotes mesenchymal growth and calcification of teeth, lowers serum calcium levels, and affects the leukocyte count.
