1. describing a mental state characterized by fixed and logically elaborated delusion. There are many causes, including paranoid schizophrenia, manic-depressive psychosis, organic psychoses such as alcoholism, paraphrenia, and severe emotional stress.
2. describing a personality distinguished by such traits as excessive sensitivity to rejection by others, suspiciousness, hostility, and self-importance.
