Pantothenic acid in which the carboxyl group is replaced by a sulfonic acid group; analogous to pantothenic acid in structure, except that taurine replaces β-alanine in the molecule. SYN: thiopanic acid.

pan·to·yl·tau·rine (pan″to-əl-tawґrēn) a competitive inhibitor of pantothenic acid derived by replacement of the carboxyl group by a sulfonyl group; it is the amide of pantoic acid and taurine. Called also thiopanic acid.
