nu·clide (nooґklīd) a species of atom characterized by the atomic number, mass number, and quantum state of its nucleus, and capable of existing for a measurable lifetime (generally greater than 10−10 sec). Thus nuclear isomers are separate nuclides, but promptly decaying excited nuclear states and unstable intermediates in nuclear reactions are not so considered.
