No·car·di·a·ceae (no-kahr″de-aґse-e) a family of bacteria of the suborder Corynebacterineae, order Actinomycetales, consisting of nonmotile, gram-positive microorganisms that form branching hyphae that fragment into rod-shaped to coccoid elements; organisms are aerobic, chemo-organotrophic, and catalase-positive. It includes the genera Nocardia and Rhodococcus.
