A technique of general anesthesia based upon intravenous administration of neuroleptic drugs, together with inhalation of a weak anesthetic with or without neuromuscular relaxants.

neu·ro·lep·tan·es·the·sia (noor″o-lep″tan-es-theґzhə) [neuroleptic + anesthesia] a state of neuroleptanalgesia and unconsciousness, produced by the combined administration of an opioid analgesic and a neuroleptic agent, together with the inhalation of nitrous oxide and oxygen.
