mono·eth·a·nol·amine (mon″o-eth″ə-nōlґə-mēn) 2-aminoethanol; an amino alcohol occurring in phosphatidylethanolamines and derived metabolically by decarboxylation of serine. Its oleate salt is called ethanolamine oleate (q.v.). Called also ethanolamine. [NF] a purified preparation of this substance, used as a surfactant in pharmaceuticals.
