ke·to·co·na·zole (ke″to-konґə-zōl) [USP] an imidazole derivative used as a broad-spectrum antifungal agent, administered orally for a wide range of systemic and cutaneous fungal infections and applied topically to the skin in the treatment of various forms of tinea, pityriasis versicolor, cutaneous candidiasis, seborrheic dermatitis, and dandruff; also used as a secondary antiandrogen in the treatment of advanced prostatic carcinoma.
