es·mo·lol hyd·ro·chlo·ride (esґmo-lol) a short-acting, cardioselective beta1-blocker used as an antiarrhythmic in the short-term control of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and noncompensatory sinus tachycardia; administered by intravenous infusion.
