- an acute disorder in ewes caused by ketosis during the last few weeks of pregnancy, especially when they are carrying twins, triplets, or a large single lamb; the usual cause is undernutrition associated with stress. It can lead to impaired nervous function, coma, and death. Called also twin-lamb disease and lambing paralysis.
