throm·bo·cy·ta·phe·re·sis (throm″bo-si″tə-fə-reґsis) [thrombocyte + apheresis] the selective separation and removal of platelets (thrombocytes) from withdrawn blood, the remainder of the blood then being retransfused into the donor. Called also plateletpheresis and thrombapheresis.
