dial test
(for instability of posterolateral structures of the knee) with the patient lying either prone or supine, each knee is flexed at 30° and rotated externally, and rotation of the tibial tubercles between the injured and normal contralateral limb are compared; a difference of more than 10° indicates abnormal laxity. The test is often repeated with the knees flexed at 90°. Called also tibial external rotation t.
