fat cow syndrome

fat cow syndrome
a syndrome seen in overly fat cows just after they have given birth; loss of appetite postpartum leads to mobilization of body fat stores with deposition of fat in the liver and ketosis, sometimes ending in coma and death. Called also fatty liver disease and pregnancy toxemia in cows.
