1. malabsorption and flat jejunal mucosa, signs of celiac disease that do not respond to withdrawal of dietary gluten. 2. celiac disease in which initial responsiveness to gluten withdrawal deteriorates with time; it is often characterized by persistent absence of villi in the proximal mucosa and malabsorption even during the initial period of clinical responsiveness. Called also unclassified s.
