Sphingomonas

Sphin·go·mo·nas (sfing″go-moґnəs) [sphingo- + Gr. monas unit, from monos single] a genus of free-living, gram-negative bacteria of the family Sphingomonadaceae, consisting of non–spore-forming, motile or nonmotile straight or slightly curved rods or ovoid cells; organisms are aerobic, catalase-positive, and oxidase-positive or -negative. Organisms of medical interest are contained in the type species S. paucimoґbilis.
