puddle sign
a method for detecting ascites in the abdominal cavity: the patient lies prone for five minutes, then rises to hands and knees; the part of the ventral abdomen containing the fluid “puddle” shows a loss of high-frequency vibration that can be detected and measured by flicking a finger against the flank and abdomen and listening through a stethoscope.
