cortical rim sign
in computed tomography of the kidney, a thin rim of peripheral cortex that is perfused and visible when other parts of the cortex are not, because of capsular collateral arteries; it indicates cortical necrosis, renal vein thrombosis, or infarction of the nonperfused parts. Called also rim s.
