neonatal diarrhea in calves, lambs, and foals during the first few days after birth, usually caused by enteropathogenic strains of Escherichia coli and less often by other bacteria or viruses; marked by fever, dehydration, and depression, with fetid light-colored feces that may be bloodstained late in the disease.
