polynucleotide adenylyltransferase
- polynucleotide adenylyltransferase
- poly·nu·cleo·tide aden·yl·yl·trans·fer·ase (pol″e-nooґkle-o-tīd ə-den″əl-əl-transґfər-ās) [EC 2.7.7.19] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the sequential addition of ATP-derived adenylate residues to the 3′ end of a polynucleotide. The enzyme does not require a template. The reaction produces the polyadenylate (poly A) tail characteristic of most eukaryotic messenger RNA molecules. Called also poly A polymerase.
