Photorhabdus
Pho·to·rhab·dus (fo″to-rabґdəs) [photo- + Gr. rhabdos rod] a genus of gram-negative bacteria of the family Enterobacteriaceae, consisting of facultatively anaerobic, non–spore-forming, bioluminescent rods that are motile by peritrichous flagella. Organisms occur as symbionts of nematodes, parasites of insects, and opportunistic pathogens for humans, in whom they cause bacteremia and soft tissue infections. The type species is P. luminesґcens.
