Peniculina
Pe·nic·u·li·na (pə-nikґu-liґnə) a suborder of large, free-living, monomorphic, mainly freshwater protozoa (order Hymenostomatida, subclass Hymenostomatia), characterized by the presence of explosive fusiform trichocysts and three peniculi, often located deep in the buccal cavity; nematodesmata and preoral and postoral sutures and an oral groove occur often. Many species have algal and gram-negative endosymbionts. Paramecium is a representative species.
