suppurative parotitis

suppurative parotitis
bacterial parotitis with suppuration, marked by rapid onset, swelling of the glands, severe pain, and often trismus, low-grade fever, headache, malaise, and leukocytosis. It occurs most often after surgery, in neonates, or in debilitated patients, usually middle-aged or older; patients usually have dehydration and suppression of salivary secretion, and sometimes have been breathing through the mouth or vomiting.
