overmatching
over·match·ing (o″vər-machґing) in statistics, matching of too many variables or matching variables too closely when selecting cases and controls for study, so that true causal relationships between variables may be obscured, irrelevant variables may be included, or the study may become too complex and specific for appropriate controls to be reasonably obtained.
