Orthobunyavirus

Or·tho·bun·ya·vi·rus (or″tho-bunґyə-vi″rəs) a widespread genus of viruses of the family Bunyaviridae, containing at least 161 species in 18 serogroups and 4 unclassified species; human pathogens of this genus cause febrile disease and encephalitis. Important pathogenic species include Bunyamwera, Bwamba, California encephalitis, Guama, Jamestown Canyon, La Crosse, Oropouche, and Tahyna viruses. The usual mode of transmission is by the bite of infected mosquitoes, although a few species are tick-borne. Formerly called Bunyavirus.
