Stimson method

Stimson method
1. closed reduction of anterior shoulder dislocation by using a small weight to exert traction on the affected arm, which hangs over the edge of the table with the patient in the prone position. 2. a method for closed reduction of posterior hip dislocation: the patient lies prone with the distal pelvis overhanging the bed and the hip, knee and ankle flexed to 90°. Reduction is accomplished by grasping the leg just distal to the knee and applying downward force, with gentle rotation of the hip and, if necessary, pressure on the femoral head.
