memantine

memantine
mem·an·tine (memґan-tēn) an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonist used in the treatment of symptoms of moderate to severe Alzheimer disease. It protects the brain's nerve cells against glutamate, which is released in excess amounts by cells damaged by Alzheimer disease and which overstimulates the NMDA receptors; administered orally.
