rat leprosy
a chronic epizootic disease of wild rats caused by Mycobacterium lepraemurium, characterized by lesions containing enormous numbers of acid-fast bacilli closely resembling M. leprae in size and shape, which may be transmitted to white rats, mice, and guinea pigs by inoculation of infected tissue; a relationship with human leprosy has not been established. Called also murine l.
