[DSM-IV] a type of substance intoxication seen during or shortly after ingestion of alcohol, characterized by maladaptive psychological or behavioral changes combined with physiologic responses such as slurred speech, incoordination, impaired memory or attention, and unsteady gait, progressing eventually to stupor or coma.
