11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase
11β-hy·droxy·ste·roid de·hy·dro·gen·ase (hi-drok″se-sterґoid de-hiґdro-jən-ās) [EC 1.1.1.146] an enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the reversible hydrogenation-dehydrogenation reaction between cortisone and cortisol. There are two isoforms: type 1, which is found in a wide range of tissues, catalyzes the conversion of cortisone to cortisol; type 2, found mainly in the kidney, colon, salivary glands, and placenta, catalyzes the inactivation of cortisol to cortisone.
