- 4-hy·droxy-2-oxo·glu·ta·rate al·do·lase (hi-drok″se-ok″so-glooґtə-rāt alґdo-lās) [EC 4.1.3.16] an enzyme of the lyase class that catalyzes the cleavage of 4-hydroxy-α-ketoglutarate to form pyruvate and glyoxylate. The reaction is a step in the degradation of free hydroxyproline.
