chlorinated hydrocarbon
any of a group of hydrocarbons with chlorine substitution, which accumulate in body fat and can build up to toxic levels. They are used mainly as refrigerants, industrial solvents, insecticides, and dry cleaning fluids, and some have been used as anesthetics. See table at organochlorine. Called also chlorohydrocarbon.
