snapping hip

snapping hip
a condition characterized by an audible or palpable snapping sensation that occurs during hip movement associated with exercise or normal daily activities, often accompanied by pain. It is classified as external, caused by sudden displacement of a thickened iliotibial band or gluteus maximus muscle over the greater trochanter; internal, caused by snapping of the iliopsoas tendon over the iliopectineal eminence; or intra-articular, caused by mechanical abnormalities within the joint.
