serum-ascites albumin gradient

serum-ascites albumin gradient
(SAAG) a method for categorizing ascites: the albumin concentration of serum and ascitic fluid specimens is measured, and the value of the ascitic fluid specimen is subtracted from the value of the serum specimen. A difference equal to or greater than 1.1 g/dL indicates the presence of portal hypertension.
