colloidal gold
a purplish suspension of minute particles of metallic gold, used in medicine since alchemical times. The radioactive form, made by exposure to neutrons, has been used by intracavitary or interstitial injection in the treatment of certain types of cancer and also has been used as a scintiscanning agent.
