tropical enteropathy
changes in intestinal villus structure occurring in the tropics and subtropics, leading to decreased absorptive capacity and eventually a malabsorption syndrome. It may be caused by either subclinical intestinal infections or inadequate nutrition. See also tropical sprue, under sprue.
