polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis

polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis
(PAGE) gel electrophoresis using a polymerized polyacrylamide matrix to separate molecules on the basis of size, charge, or both; usually used to separate proteins or sequence nucleic acids. Gels are usually discontinuous (see disc e.) but may be a single layer, and are either nondenaturing to examine native molecules or denaturing as in SDS-PAGE.
