microvascular decompression
a microsurgical procedure for relief of trigeminal neuralgia; decompression of the sensory root of the trigeminal nerve is accomplished by insertion of a small nonabsorbable sponge to relieve pressure from small blood vessels where the root enters the pons. Called also Jannetta procedure.
