debulking
de·bulk·ing (de-bulkґing) removal of a major portion of the material that composes a lesion, as the removal of most of a tumor so that there is less tumor load for subsequent treatment (e.g., by chemotherapy or radiotherapy). Called also cytoreduction and cytoreductive surgery.
