circle of death
an arterial formation sometimes encountered in surgery for inguinal hernias, with an aberrant branch of the obturator artery arising from the inferior epigastric or external iliac artery, crossing the pectineal ligament, and anastomosing with the obturator artery; this vessel can encircle the neck of a hernial sac and become damaged during surgery, causing hemorrhage.
