inner hair cells

inner hair cells
a flask-shaped type of auditory hair cells, found in a single row on the medial side of the inner tunnel of the organ of Corti; they receive impulses from the outer hair cells and transform them into electrical signals that are given to the cochlear nerve for transmission to an auditory cortex in the brain. These cells are surrounded by supporting phalangeal cells.
