cal·fac·tant (kal-fakґtənt) a pulmonary surfactant from calf lung, which includes phospholipids, neutral lipids, and several surfactant-associated proteins; used in the prophylaxis and treatment of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, instilled into the endotracheal tube for intratracheal administration.
