An antifibrinolytic agent, used to prevent bleeding in hemophilia, and after heart and prostate surgery when plasminogen or urokinase may be activated.

ami·no·ca·pro·ic ac·id (ə-me″no-kə-proґik) [USP] a preparation of ε-aminocaproic acid, used orally and intravenously for treatment of acute bleeding syndromes due to excessive fibrinolysis and for the prevention and treatment of postsurgical hemorrhage.
